Lisa wants to invite local software makers and blogging luminaries. She characterizes it as part of an all-encompassing quest for schwag, but truly her intentions are more noble. She wants to use this group to get at new knowledge. She mentioned a book called Regional Advantage, which compares the tech successes of Boston's Rt 128 corridor and Silicon Valley.

Josh brought up this question, and thinks we need a clearer purpose in order to avoid getting lost without a leader. Some possibilities:

  • blog enable the 7th congressional district election (Lisa)
  • bring in more nerds
  • bring in newbie bloggers and teach them
  • bring in blogging luminaries (Rebecca and David Weinberger can help here)
  • Crazy ideas for people: Bono, Scoble, (god help us for these two possibilities), Ethan Zuckerman, David Weinberger, Howard Dean, Margaret Cho, Jennifer Weiner, Kos, Moby, Lessig, Cosmo Massero, Dave Barry, Dan Kennedy from the Phoenix, folks from MoveOn, or TrueMajority, Joi Ito, techdirt, FuckedCompany, Kevin Marks, Bryan Briggs of BBSpot, Chris Pirillo, Cameron Marlowe, Ben and Mena Trott, etc. To be continued on the list. (Addendum: Jeneane Garofalo.)

The question in my mind is, how do we get people to step up and take more of a personal stake in these issues? It's too easy for me to just assume that someone else will provide interesting stuff to talk about or recruit new members. I'll try to think about this if I don't convince myself that someone else is.

Then I gave a fairly long demonstration of frassle. Lisa seemed intrigued by the publisher's javascript syndication features. Time to go to dinner (Cambrige Common)!
