Chris Winters on the importance of tomfoolery and experimentation in the making of programs, and how the Perl community embraces this (to the jeers of the "real" languages).
I wholly agree that in order to build wisdom and skill most quickly, one needs to be free to experiment in a realm where failure is not catastrophic. Taking risks and having fun, with the guidance of a master, is the fundamental mode of learning.
